HTTPDwatch

Self-hosted edition

Connecting agents

Install the httpd-agent package on every Apache HTTPD server you want to monitor. The agent connects out to the server over one encrypted WebSocket; nothing connects in to the Apache host.

1. Install the agent

sudo dnf install ./httpd-agent-*.x86_64.rpm

For traffic metrics, Apache must expose mod_status on a local URL:

ExtendedStatus On
<Location "/server-status">
    SetHandler server-status
    Require local
</Location>

The agent opens no port: it connects out to the HTTPDwatch server over an encrypted WebSocket and receives its requests (status, configuration, logs, start/stop) over that connection. It trades the one-time enrollment token for its own secret on first connect; removing the agent on the Agents page revokes it.

2. Run the guided setup

sudo httpd-agent setup

It asks for the server URL (https://<server>), the base path (/httpdmon) and a one-time enrollment token from the dashboard's Agents page, writes /etc/httpd-agent/httpd-agent.env, and tests the connection. Then:

sudo systemctl enable --now httpd-agent

Within a few seconds the agent appears on the dashboard's Agents page and its instances start reporting.

Checking an agent

sudo systemctl status httpd-agent
sudo journalctl -u httpd-agent -f
